King's College coat of arms: a cross on a blue shield, with the motto Sapientia et Scientia
King's College Commercial · East London

Where we inspire learning, creativity and growth.

“Sapientia et Scientia” — Wisdom and Knowledge

A school in East London where learning, creativity and growth come first. Come and see how our classrooms make learning something children enjoy.

Sapientia et Scientia — wisdom and knowledge, in equal measure.

About the College

A school that learns by doing.

Our crest carries a cross, two crowns and one Latin line: Sapientia et Scientia, wisdom and knowledge. It is also how we teach.

Knowledge without wisdom produces clever people who cause harm, and wisdom without knowledge produces good people who cannot act. We aim to build both, in the classroom and in how learners treat each other.

You can see it in our Grade R classrooms, where children learn their letter sounds by painting, and in our Grade 3 classrooms, where learners work out how to keep their planet clean. Parents and teachers are part of it too, and we're grateful for how often families show up for the school.

1

Creative learning

Letter sounds, rockets and jellyfish: young learners build understanding with their hands.

2

A community behind every learner

Teachers, parents and supporters turn out for fundraisers and school events.

3

Care for the world around us

Learners study pollution and what each of us can do to keep our planet clean.

Academics

Two pillars, one motto.

The two words on our crest shape how we think about teaching. Here is what they looked like in our classrooms this term.

Pillar one

Sapientia

Wisdom: how to live and judge well

  • Grade 3 learners explored how we can all help keep our planet clean
  • Teachers, learners and parents came together for a school fundraising night
  • Learners practise creativity and teamwork alongside their schoolwork
Pillar two

Scientia

Knowledge: how to understand and build

  • Grade R learners learned the J sound, then painted jellyfish to match
  • Grade R learners painted colourful rockets and made flower art
  • Grade 3 learners studied pollution and put their knowledge to the test

Creativity

Learning with paint on our hands.

Creativity isn't a break from learning here. It's how we teach it.

  • Paint it

Our Grade R learners learned the J sound by printing jellyfish, using onions as their stamps.

  • Build it

Colourful rockets and flower art turned a busy Grade R week into a trip to the moon and back.

  • Prove it

Grade 3 learners put their creativity and knowledge to the test in a project on pollution and keeping our planet clean.

Sports

Blue and black, on the field.

Soccer pitches, netball courts, rugby fields and the sports day track: our learners play in their school colours and play together.

Awards

Effort is recognised out loud.

At our prize-givings, learners walk onto the stage to collect their certificates in front of classmates, teachers and families. Merit certificates are handed out for achievements like 100% attendance, because showing up every day is worth celebrating.

Diversity

Many dreams, one circle.

Our learners come from different homes and dream of different futures.

In this photo, learners wrote the career they imagine for themselves on the back of their hand: teacher, doctor, nurse, police officer, firefighter, florist, soccer player. Then they stood together in one circle.

That is the school we want to be: a place where every child is welcome, every ambition is taken seriously, and no one stands outside the circle.
